As I walked up to this spot at dusk the evening prior to when I took this photo my eyes were focused on the opposite bank, looking for the beaver that is building the winter cache seen floating here in the foreground , I disturbed two deer who were drinking from the river just down to my right on the outside bend. The deer saw me first and immediately took flight, this was when I noticed the movement and saw two white tails bounding off back into the bush. I stood there regretting my clumsiness in causing the disturbance when out of the bush came this very mean sounding cry, I had never heard this cry before, and then again. I took the hint and removed myself from the area. I had a thought of what it was I might have heard, but I was not sure. When I got home I played some you tube videos of a certain animal's warning cry and that was it. Confirmed.....I had just been warned off by....a Cougar. It was probably stalking the deer and I cost it a meal, a cause now for double regret. Sturgeon County.
