Stalwart

After a night of frigid temperatures (-40C/-47C wind chill) by early afternoon it had warmed to -25C/-35C and I decided to check out the owl tree. There she was roosting but a little worse for wear with a blooded and damaged area on her breast plumage. Sturgeon County.

Old friend

It took the coldest night of the winter so far (-35C) to bring the return of my old friend of winters past to the owl tree to warm in the golden glow of the late afternoon sun, I presume she had been here all day. Her first visit of this winter. Sturgeon County.

Frosted Owl

A cold (-25C with -31C wind chill) and snowy day in the forest on the banks of the Sturgeon River in Sturgeon County.

Goodbye

After flitting from tree to tree this owl flew to yet another tree to get a look at me and the dog, this is where we left it.

Another Perch

This Barred Owl flew onto this branch to look at me and the dog when we made our way past on our return trip during a late afternoon walk.

Another look

The Barred Owl flew from the ground to a tree to another tree enabling me to get several shots, it seemed very tolerant of our presence.
