As I watched with the dog this squirrel dug out it's cache of pine cones from beneath a small stump then jumped onto the top of the stump to eat its meal.

The undergrowth has been thinned out by browsing moose which have now departed leaving a quiet place save for a few chickadees looking for handouts, the occasional drum of a woodpecker, the cries of ravens passing overhead, and an occasional scurrying hare and a solitary coyote passing through.
