As we head for Kitimat I wish to pay tribute to Jen, the Owner of the Ocean Light II, and Chris the skipper and guide. Their hospitality aboard and talent in getting us the photo opportunities, and safety culture on the water and around the bears, was exceptional. Also to photographer Brad Hill who demonstrated great talent and leadership so that all members of the group could get the most out of one of the best photography experiences around IMHO. Thanks to all.
Leaving Prince George before sunrise I reach the Ancient Forest which was only open for the weekend due to parking lot reconstruction. The sun has just risen but there is already one car in the parking lot ahead of me. I collect my gear and head up past the bear warning signs and up the mountain side into the forest. A boardwalk has been constructed since I was here in 2011.
I spent an hour walking the boardwalk loop, looking for compositions with my wide angle lens and working with my camera on a tripod, it was misty and snowy and magical - I had the place to myself, I never did see the occupants of the other car, nor did I run into any bears. For more of this place please go to the "Ancient Forest" gallery.
